Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle Injections | Skin Clinic Fremantle

Whenever we laugh, frown or make facial expressions, our facial muscles contract and cause “dynamic wrinkles”. When we are young, these wrinkles resolve when we relax the muscles, however as we age these wrinkles become increasingly pronounced and prominent, giving an older, more tired, stressed, anxious or angry look. Anti-wrinkle injections are used to relax specific facial muscles that cause these dynamic wrinkles.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

The active ingredient in anti-wrinkle injections is a purified bacterial protein. Since this is a prescription-only medication, government regulations prevent us from naming the specific product on our website, but it has been used for over 20 years in the medical industry around the world with an excellent safety record and reputation.

What does treatment involve?

This is a non-surgical procedure whereby a small amount of anti-wrinkle product is administered into selected facial muscles using a very fine microneedle. Any discomfort felt is minimal and brief. Anaesthetic is not required but your skin can be numbed with ice prior to the procedure.

How long does it take?

This is a bespoke service where each client is different, however, a anti-wrinkle treatment will typically take 10-20 minutes. All our cosmetic injectable treatments are done by one of our doctors.

Is there any aftercare?

It is important that you do not lie down, or rub/touch the treated muscles for 4 hours after your injections. This is to prevent accidental spread to surrounding muscles, which can lead to sub-optimal results.

When will I see results?

On average, you will start to see results after 3-5 days, and the full effect is usually reached at 2 weeks.

Will the treatment affect my facial expression?

Anti-wrinkle injections are intended to enhance and refresh your looks. Treatment is intended to relax specific muscles to varying degrees.  Since we tailor our treatments to each individual patient, the effects can be varied to suit your personal preference in terms of muscle movement. In other words, you don’t have to have the “frozen” look that was popular in the 1990s. Some facial muscles pull downwards, and tend to cause negative expressions such as a frown. But for each muscle that pulls down, there is one or more that pulls in the opposite direction, and these are the ones that tend to  cause our more positive expressions. With a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy, a natural-look can be achieved by strategically altering the balance of muscles that pull in opposing directions. All of our cosmetic injections are performed by doctors, and we specialise in achieving balanced, harmonious results.

How long will the results last?

This differs between individuals but typically the effects will initially last 3-4 months. If you choose not to have further treatments, your muscles will return to normal activity and your wrinkles will revert to their pre-treatment levels, i.e. the effect of the treatment will gradually wear off.

How do I maintain my results after anti-wrinkle injections?

Regular anti-wrinkle treatments will improve the longevity of the treatment’s effects, i.e. the results of each treatment will last for longer and therefore the time between each treatment can be extented. In addition, regular treatment may help reduce static wrinkles (these are wrinkles that are present even when your face is at rest). Good cosmeceutical skincare that keeps the skin hydrated and functioning well can also help prolong the effects of your anti-wrinkle treatments.

What are the side effects?

While you may experience no side effects at all, as with all medications, side effects can occur. The dose of anti-wrinkle medication used for facial lines is small and any side effects are usually temporary and localised to the area of injection. Possible side effects include headache, pain, burning/stinging, bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site, local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids/eyebrows, swollen eyelids, skin tightness, itching.

How much are Anti-wrinkle Injections?

All our cosmetic injectables are performed by highly qualified doctors, and therefore our prices can not be compared with those available from commercial chain clinics using nurse injectors.

We charge for the amount of product ($15/unit) that is used, not per area that is treated. We treat each client as an individual and therefore the amount of product needed will vary from person to person. It is not possible to give an accurate quote without seeing you in person. The unit guide below are intended as a guide only and actual costs can and will vary.
