MonaLisa Touch™ Vaginal Rejuvenation

What is vaginal atrophy?

Vaginal atrophy, or vaginal ageing, affects up to 50% of menopausal and post-menopausal women. A women’s natural decline in oestrogen levels during menopause or sudden decline following surgery and some medical treatments, significantly affect the vaginal structure and function.

h
The walls of the vagina become thinner and the natural elasticity and blood supply is reduced. The protective mucosa of the vagina can lose hydration and thickness, causing a loss of lubrication. The changes in the natural acid balance (pH) of the internal environment have detrimental effects on the function and health of the vagina. Vaginal rejuvenation is needed.

What are the physical and emotional effects of vaginal atrophy?

The symptoms of vaginal atrophy may or may not occur simultaneously, and may be felt as:

Vaginal dryness, itching and burning

Pain during sexual intercourse

Vaginal laxity, loss of elasticity or tone

Recurrent infections

Urinary urgency and incontinence

These symptoms, known collectively as vaginal atrophy, can have a negative impact on your general wellbeing, causing lifestyle alterations and in many cases placing a stress on intimate relationships.

Research has indicated that almost half of all women will suffer from the effects of vaginal atrophy during their lifetime, yet only 25% of these women have previously sought medical advice. Today, a simple and effective treatment is available to improve the tone, comfort and normal functioning of the female genital region.

Existing Treatment Options for Vaginal Rejuvenation.

The most common treatment for vaginal atrophy has required an ongoing application of hormone based (oestrogen) creams directly into the vagina. For a variety of reasons, some women are not able to use these creams, become uncomfortable with this process, or are irregular with the application and eventually discontinue use.

MonaLisa Touch™ Vaginal Rejuvenation

The MonaLisa Touch treatment for vaginal atrophy and urinary incontinence symptoms has been used successfully to treat many thousands of women worldwide. The inspiration for this significant advancement in vaginal health has come from dermatological treatments used for wrinkle reductions and skin texture improvements.

The MonaLisa Touch is simple yet highly effective laser treatment that works by stimulating your body’s natural regeneration processes. MonaLisa Touch is a non-hormonal, pain-free and long lasting procedure offering a welcome alternative to hormone-based creams. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes, requires no anaesthesia and women can return to normal daily activities immediately following treatment.

How MonaLisa Touch™ Vaginal Rejuvenation works

The MonaLisa Touch procedure uses a fractionated CO2 laser to stimulate the body’s own regenerative processes, creating more hydrated and healthy cells, and improving the circulation and nutrient supply to the vaginal mucosa. This has a direct effect on the integrity and elasticity of the vaginal wall and returned the internal vaginal environment to more normal levels.

In as a little as 30 days after treatment, the regeneration of new tissue in the vaginal wall builds a naturally strainer structure and the protective mucosa recovers volume, hydration and elasticity. The following images show a cross section of vaginal mucosa (at the same magnification) prior to treatment (A) and then 2 months after a single treatment (B).
